In an humorous write-up, 1UP.com sent an employee into the various game store chains to probe the savvy of the clerks. “Tough Customer” paints the EB Clerk as a gruff “I know more about games than you” jerk-hole, where as I always found them to be dorkish “I want you to know that I know more about games than you” type of folk. Must be a New England thing.
The Toys R Us clerk must have grown up in the 60’s. For Shame.
I’m a big fan of gamestop in Burlington, the kid is always helpful and gives me demos and posters all the time. Do not go to gamestop at the Meadow Glenn Mall in Medford. There was one time when I was checking out the backs of the boxes and I guess I was taking a little too long, the clerk asks, “what can I help you with?” I said I was just looking. He replies “Well you’ve been in here 30 minutes if you don’t know what you’re going to buy, then come back when you do”. I know they have a problem with kids stealing in that store but give me a break.
As far as EB games goes, well that place used to be Egghead Software years back and even then they treated you like shit.

I have nothing against starting fights with gamestore clerks. Sometimes when they’re asking for it, they’re asking for it.
I haven’t been treated like Shit at EB, but that place is peculiar. Most of the time there’s a duo working the desk who always have some sort of forced dialogue going on. 100% anything they say to each other is an attempt to prove to their audience (those in line) that they know something “cool” about some title — almost as if they’ve practiced it before. Probably have. Probably a company policy.
Thankfully they usually know what they’re talking about, but still it seems like a cheesey over-production.
