Which RTS is for me?
October 18th, 2005
So I have always been a fan of the RTS genre for as long as I can remember playing games, well at least as long as I played my first one.
Anyway I have a question for my fellow monkeygame gamers. Besides Age of Empires 3 which I will probably get what other RTS’s are out there for me. I know there are some really cool ones coming out next year and the like, but I’m looking for a fix now. If you had to go to the store today and buy one which would it be? Why?
I’ve been in a drought recently, thanks WoW, and i was so desperate that I installed C&C generals last night to get a fix.
What say you.
Thanks

I would deffinitely check out
Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War

Fantasitcly fun, over the top action. Seriously fun. Did i mention fun?
Also it’s expansion pack just came out:

Alternatively, I was late to joning , but really enjoyed The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth. Its a little simplistic on gameplay, but the story was hard to beat. Really sucks you into the Middle Earth world.

For something more standard.. if you missed Rise of Nations, then you made a serious mistake. It added some nice features like enemy territory that eats away at your units when your not supplied.

It too recently had an expansion pack:

So overall, I’d hit Dawn of War… it really was so much fun to play. If you want a more in-depth AOE type experience, hit Rise of nations, or as you said Age 3.

I honestly can’t think of any other good RTS that have recently hit the market. You know me though - I’ve been happy with Rome Total War for a year now, and I’ll probably still be playing it up until the next release by the Creative Assembly. Their games are top notch, personalizable (if there was any way to make an Army Simulator into an RPG, then this is it), and a great historical lesson at the same time.
I just had my first run at AoE3. After playing through the first 3 scenarios I can safely say that this game will be damn fun. The sense of shaking and exploding buildings when they’re hit with multiple bombard cannons is something that games have been missing for a long time. Plus - it freaking sounds cooler than **it. I can’t want to go back in and blow more crap up.
