Via slashdot comes a Twitch Guru editorial that posits that using a somewhat controversial name like “Wii” was in fact, a way to garner alot of media attention comgin into E3…
On the other hand, this is the point of the discussion where I start to ponder, suppose Nintendo is smarter than all of us. It’s just over a week to E3, where Sony fans will be all giddy and running around like they have a Blu-ray chasing their tails. Amid all this, Nintendo announces a name change which is not only interesting, but controversial. You can’t not notice it. Essentially, Nintendo steals more than a wee bit of Sony’s thunder. Then, post-E3, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo steals it back again, saying either, “It was all a big laugh…” or, in a more straight-faced manner, “We’ve listened to customer feedback…” and change the name back to Revolution. All right, so that’s one of those “grassy knoll” conspiracy theories, but they’d get double their monies worth and finish up with more attention than what they started with, so I’d do it.

Nintendo Officially changed the name of the upcoming next gen console. Let us all become “ok” with the new consoles name…Wii.
How are they going to announce the Wii with a stright face @ E3?
I miss the origional project name already!
From Nintendo:
Introducing … Wii.
As in “we.”
While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.
Because, it’s really not about you or me.
It’s about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything.

We just love that the E3 machine is warming up. We also love Beer. So together.. this may be the best Monkeygames story ever.
Our good pals over at Liquor Snob have a pleasant little write up of a drinking game you can play with your friends when you settle in to watch the E3 Keynotes.
“We don’t know who Reggie or Myamoto are, but that Nintendo drinking game sounds like a hoot. “
Did I say good friends? I meant loose acquaintances.

Can you feel it?
That thrumming down in your gut? That slight twitch in your eye? Thats not the bird flu, thats E3, and its about to lay you down for the count.
And beginning the fits of jaw “drop aches” that will spread around the office this year, comes this fine article at IGN. The writing is meaningless babble, and the only real news is that Quake Wars will have a 24 player lan setup for convention-goers to get their grubby mitts on. But hey.. we don’t look at IGN for the articles.. do we?

Theres plenty more where those came from.
Try to clean up after yourself.
