Some Guy seems to have been a big overzealous with his wiimote and his TV took the damage.
We’ve had a few play sessions already, and we’ve seen no problems with the wiimote flying out of our hands, nor with the strap being faulty at all, though its probably worth keeping an eye on it.
It also is very plausible that some active play will cause your hands to get sweaty and a slidey wiimote may fly out. Though again, how the strap broke from this seems a mystery to us. We also don’t trust quite everything we see on the internet, so who konws if this is some attempt to get Nintendo to be liable for a new TV. *shrug*. Just keep an eye out we think.
We brought the Wii home and played it pretty much nonstop for the past 24 hours. At 12:10am, during a slower couch-sitting game of Wii Sports: Bowling, my Nintendo Wii got angry with me.My buddy Troy reels back to roll his ball as he’s done about 300 times tonight suddenly feels the controller slip from his hand. (THANK GOD for the wrist strap right?)Nope. Wrist strap snaps. The Wiimote flies across the room impaling my 60″ rear projection TV square in the upper left corner.Be warned: Sweaty hands + faulty Wiimote wrist strap = broken ass TV.
Well, a couple of us did it. We waited in a line all night outside of a Wal-Mart to get our Wiis. Having never waited in a line, it was a fun and different experience. It was cold, but laying in our sleeping Bags, we were toasty warm, even when we saw some snow coming down.
We had the protection and organization of “the Governer” who kept the masses ordely and peaceful with his line and signup list organization, as well as excellent intelligence given his managerial contact with the Wal-Mart managers. It was a blast, and to those who got a WII, congrats!
To Those who DIDNT get a Wii, hang tight. It seems like more are on the way.
I’ll post later with my impressions. But for now.. enjoy these pics, and the slashdot Story.
Thanks Jeff n Kim for making the nerd-line bearable!

All Hail The Governor!
All Ages Love the Wii
So worth it!
“Like the Playstation 3, the Nintendo Wii sold out on launch day this weekend. Unlike the PS3, the launch was a peaceful affair with no reports yet of console-related violence in the US. This may be partially due to the fact that Nintendo promises to have a total of four million units in stores by Christmas, with the bulk of those going to North America.
I am very excited about the Wii, and this is exactly why.
IGN is reporting that in Miyamoto’s recent interview in Nintendo Dream (posted below), he also discussed some changes made to Twilight Princess. The biggest change to the controls is that now you will be swinging your Wiimote as if it were Link’s sword. I personally am VERY excited with this new change, it is exactly how I envisioned the Wii version from the start. Nintendo had said in the past that they were worried gamers would get too tired playing a Zelda title like this, but it appears they have had a change of heart. Miyamoto himself is all for the new idea stating, “Upon actually playing it, it’s more interesting this way.”
Nice. WII announced as not having online subscription costs.
In a new interview with major North American newspaper USA Today, Nintendo of America’s recently promoted president and chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime has commented on a number of features of the Wii’s imminent launch, including confirmation of free online play. When asked about the pricing model for online use of the Wii, Fils-Aime commented that: “We will offer online-enabled games that the consumers will not have to pay a subscription fee for. They’ll be able to enjoy that right out of the box. The Wii console is going to be Wi-Fi enabled, so essentially, you’ll be able to plug it in and go. It won’t have hidden fees or costs.”
This is so cool. Beta levels for Wind Waker have been found on the disc!
Now.. if any of them have any topless elves in them… we can get a nice lawsuite together!
We’d heard about this some time back, but we’d never seen a running video until recently and Fronz threatened to kill me if I didn’t post it asap. Now, you’re used to finding remnant developer BETA oddities in PC first person shooters by hacking away at the registry, but on a console… and in Zelda - The Wind Waker? Believe it - coders discovered ActionReplay codes that ulock trippy MonkeyBall-looking worlds that look completely like any Zelda experience you’ve ever played. Cellda’s Link finds himself in an Akira circus nightmare with checkered placeholder textures, long lakes, blocky bluffs, and a labyrynth of ladders right out of American Gladiators. None of this footage was ever meant for gamer’s eyes, but the experience is so interesting and surreal that I’d wish game developers would keep their best Betas in there (a-la DVD Bonus Materials, when there is surplus space available on the game disks).
An interesting art project that any gamer (or programmer) could love.
Any piece of executable code is also commingled with data, ranging from simple sentences of text for error messages to entire sets of graphics for the application. In older cartridge-based console games, the images for each of the small on-screen images (the “sprites”) were often stored as raw data embedded after the actual program’s instructions. This piece examines the unpacking of a Nintendo game cartridge, decoding the program as a four-color image, revealing a beautiful soup of the thousands of individual elements that make up the game screen.
Slashdot pointed me to this cool article today. Its showing the wiimote in action with all the games that were played at E3. Nice to see it. It will be even better to FEEL it.
he movies shown here feature each and every Wii game at E3, with footage showing how they are played using the Wii-mote. These videos really bring the Wii to life, so check them out!
Gamespot has a nice little look-see at user voted top 10 NES games of all time. Ahh good times. My diary’s first entry is about how awesome it was to beat level 4-1 of Super Mario Brothers. Times were simpler then, eh
Twenty years after the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System, the GameSpot editors took a look back at the console that shaped gaming, in our feature Flashback NES.
As part of that experience, we asked our readers to submit their own nominations for their favorite NES games of all time. Nearly 12,000 votes were tallied to get these results, and thousands of submissions were read. Many readers cited excellent soundtracks on several games, claiming that the music was still ingrained in their memories. Other readers loved being able to play games with their friends and family and mentioned that in some instances, members of their families, such as their parents, enjoyed playing these games as much as they did. Quite a few people felt that the nature of their submission was so obvious that little needed to be said in defense of their choice.
If one thing can be said of NES games, it’s that people are quite passionate about them. We’ve included excerpts from many of the submissions to help explain why the readers feel the way they do. What follows is an ordered list from 10 to 1 of the readers’ top 10 NES games of all time.If you want to just straight to the part where you sound off about the choices, feel free to jump right over to the comments section of our Honorable Mentions page Thanks for contributing, and enjoy!
I’m just saying. This is why I love the micro. Sure I could bring alot of portable gaming devices with me when I travel. But how many could I just drop in my pocket, and bring on a bike ride into the gardens of Versaille? I’m not saying I played it much there.. I mean.. its not like there was nothing to do. But when I got stuck in a line or two, Mario was there to cheer me on.
That picture is the far end of the gardens at Versaille, and its a HAUL on a bike to get that far, let alone walk.
There are photos floating around today about a yet un-announced controller for the Nintendo Wii. The more info coming out about the Wii the more I like it, check out the photo of the next gen “Zapper”.
