Rock, Paper, Shotgun: Unpaid Per Post For 135 Years

This is a fine list of the games that are coming out in 2008, and I for one am salivating over several:

Sins of a Solar Empire, Spore, and Age of Conan to name a few.

Yippie!

post TURAP

December 18th, 2007

Filed under: PC — Russell @ 11:06 am

So.. back in the day, I wrote a Red Alert patch (by editing the .ini file) and made TURAP: The Ultimate Red Alert Patch.

Well, thanks to the magic and wonder of Google and the Internet, I found the patch, alive and well on Fileplanet.

Here’s some from the patch notes:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
General:

Ore grows faster- Watch out..sometimes it creeps up on you

ORE tucks are faster- I mean Way faster…

ChronoSphere doesn’t kill cargo- I always hated that

Charge time for spy are faster- by a bit

Charge time for nukes is faster- by a little

Charge time for Paratroops is faster- by a little

Paratroops drop 10 troops- makes them more effective

Most Buildings can be spread farther!- not powerplants,
or Teslas or some other stuff, but most..

Silos- I hate them… stupid… dumb. so now they cost $1
and they hold LOTS of ore. Build one and forget them..they suck

Build Tent to get loser soldiers.
Build Barracks to get good ones…

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Soviet:

Subs- have destroyer missiles as well as torps

Attack Dog- There is none (I couldn’t stand to see a cute doggie
get squashed by any more tanks) Also no kennel

Advanced Tech Center- now Soviets get GPS too.

Islamic Fundamentalist- looks like flame thrower. Requires
Advanced Tech.. They are strange, but lethal.
I made them for fun only..don’t expect alot from them.

Spy- A spy with a sniper rifle. What a beautiful thing.
But don’t try to attack infiltrateable buildings, or he’ll infiltrate them.

Navy Seal- thief now has c4, but little gun, so watch it.

Tanya- she’s gone…too powerful.. the two above replace her.

Field Marshall- called General. snier rifle, REALLY fast runner, but expensive.

Civilian- called Delphi, they are cheap, weak, and best of all, expendable.

OK MY FAVORITE CHANGE!!!!

The Badger Bomber- Yes you can drop Parabombs anytime!! Big, Mean,
(aim just beyond target), build several, and the enemy is toast,
Unless they build air defense of course…

The Napalm Fighter- looks like a U2. Flies as fast as I can make it
(any faster and for some reason, won’t land on airstrip)
Drops lost of napalm… you don’t see it…then…
BOOM! Fire everywhere!

Spy Plane- sees as it flies..

Transport Helicopter- carries 10 passengers, shoots Mammoth Tank Rockets

Hind- Carries 5 passengers..(watch them parachute out when you attack!)

Pillbox- you don’t get one

Cammo Pill Box- Vulcan cannon for foot soldiers

Tesla Coil- why mess with perfection.

Hospital- build one, and place your wounded next to it… Watch them heal…

I love the Internet.

post EVE Online Trinity Screws the Pooch

December 6th, 2007

Filed under: PC, MMO, Mac — Russell @ 11:46 am

Yeah, so I just finished pumping up Trinity.. and they go and do this. Nice work gentlemen. I can say.. yes in fact the graphics are HAWT. And yes in fact, it WOULD screw yoru machine up if you got the premium patch within that timeframe.

(luckily I hadn’t rebooted before I fixed it)

But in order to spread the word:

6.12.2007 11:47:45
ALERT: READ THIS IF YOU INSTALLED TRINITY BEFORE 4 A.M. GMT

If you have Windows AND upgraded EVE Online: Trinity Classic before 4 A.M. GMT to Premium using the content upgrade path then you MUST read this before doing anything else.

  1. PLEASE DO NOT REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER
  2. Check the root directory of your hard drive and see if you have a boot.ini file. Boot.ini file is normally hidden so you need to click Tools : Folder Options : View and select “Show hidden files and folders” and uncheck “Hide protected operating system files” to be able to see it. You can also check for the presence of this file by clicking Start : Control Panel : System : Advanced : Startup and Recovery : Settings (third button down). Windows will alert you if the boot.ini file is missing.
  3. If boot.ini is still there then you are not affected and do not have to take any further steps.
  4. If boot.ini is NOT there then please click here: FORUM LINK

We have removed the faulty updater so anyone installing the Trinity Expansion now will not be effected.

A new updater will be available shortly.

We apologize profusely for this error and are working on offering more extensive help those that have a non-working Windows PC, so please stay tuned.

post Convert Your WoW Character into a 3D Model

Gaming Steve is fantastic.  And he has a great podcast.   But thats not what this post is about.  This is the balls-out coolest extension of your MMO gaming experience I’ve see net.  They basically make a very nicely detailed model of YOUR character in WoW.   Frickin sweet.

post Eve Online Trinity

December 5th, 2007

http://www.eve-online.com/trinity/index.html

Dave and I have been checking out EvE-Online now for a few weeks.  The game is slow at first, glacially slow.  And if action-y combat is your think, this game is not going to scratch that itch for some time.  But if you like depth in game play, and truly user-driven political systems, then this game is unparalleled.

Today will mark the launch of the (free) expansion, Trinity to the game, and also debut a brand new graphics overhaul to the game, which was already sexy to look at.    If you are feeling the boredom of WoW, and looking for a very different MMO to check out, you might want to give EvE a try.

post World In Conflict Beta

July 26th, 2007

Filed under: PC — Russell @ 9:22 am

I tried the World In Conflict beta on the PC last night.

WOW.. friggin awesome.

The graphics are sexy (after the first beta patch that is). The game play is fun.

This is only a multi player beta.. but here’s the gist.

You choose a “role” with your other teammates. I chose armor.. other choices are infantry, air, and support. While in your role, all units of that role cost normal, and other units either cost extra, or are not available at all. So it forces you to work as a team for combined arms approaches.

The battles are fought in terrain-deforming maps that have control points. (usually 2-3 circles that are linked. you have to park some guys in all circles to control em) You then have a deployment side, where you spend deployment points on units, and then air-drop them in to your area of control. (your area of control is basically where your team starts, though this may change over time) As your guys die, or just if you do well on the battlefield, you will slowly get more points into your deployment pool. As soon as you have enough (and the cool down on the airdrop is over) you can order up more units and drop em in.

You ALSO get another kind of points slowly (lets call them radio points) These allow you to call in support things. In most games, this was limited to say.. 3-4 support things (artillery.. an airdropped tank INTO the battle..etc) In this game there are 3 whole sets of things, probably totalling 21-30 different things you can order in. The most expensive on the “destructive” side, is a nuke. MMM YEAH.. saw that go off once, though other things inculde: cluster bombs, guided missile, artillery barrage, paratroopers, para dropped-tank, para dropped-Humvee, and my favorite so far.. Gas attack :) (used a good drop to kill an entire 4 squads of inf. Oh yeah!) One nice thing about support is, once you call it in, there is a delay (10-20 seconds depending on the type of support) This means you have to plant this very powerful support in an area that you think your enemy will be in, in the next 20 seconds.. very challenging.

At any rate, in this multi player game, I was armor.. I was able to request air and inf support via the “q” key (like the hot-commands in BF2) AND the game has nice built in VOIP already. Game play was ALL about action, as you deployed your boys and got straight to the fightin’. All units all have “specials” as well, one offensive, and one defensive. Very neat stuff.

To sum up. This game was hella fun. Hella gorgeous.. and definitely worth your look while its in free beta.

post Line Rider game Made to Replicate Mario World 1-1

May 22nd, 2007

Filed under: PC, Mac, Web Based Games — Russell @ 4:48 pm

Simply fantastic. I love it when one game pays homage to another. If you’ve never seen Line Rider, check it out.  Then watch this movie to appreicate  it fully.

This LineRider lever is a nigh-exact replica of the first level of Super Mario Brothers — looks like it would be a ton of fun. Someone needs to make a CounterStrike level based on this level.
