post Prepare to Wet Yourself - XB360 Videos

Look at the Screenshots Here.
Grab the Movies Here.

I’m not a huge fan of basketball, but holy crap I almost had to grab for the paper towels after seeing the in game screenshots and movies of NBA 2k6. The s-shots are branded with IGN’s logo, so you’re going to have to head over to their site to check them out (get off the couch you lazy bum). Here’s a sneak peek:

Lately I’ve been second-guessing my decision to not pre-order the XBox 360. Now I totally regret it.

PS. I love you Visual Concepts and 2K games. Show EA no mercy.

post TV on the PSP

Gizmodo has a post today about TV tuner functionality (via PSP wi-fi) not only coming to the PSP, but supported by Sony!

“Even more good news for PSP owners: Sony’s CEO Howard Stringer announced at CEATEC that the PSP will soon be able to support Location-Free TV with DVR capabilities. Using PSP’s built-in WiFi, you could potentially watch your favorite TV shows from anywhere in the world. There’ll also be higher capacity Memory Sticks that can be synchronized with a DVR. We know there’s already that cool TiVo To Go trick you can use with the PSP, but it’s nice to know there’ll be an “official” way to do it too.”

The only concern here is how much will the new memory stick cost, and will they be available to us at launch. (remember how long the wait was for a 1gig stick back in the day?)

post Game Boy Micro — an Ars Review

October 5th, 2005

Game Boy Micro Reviw @ Ars

Reviews have started popping up arond the net on the newly released Gameboy Mico.

I tell you, Nintendo is hitting on a new upswing. Their attempt to really make their products accessable to the public at large is apparent in both the micro and the as yet to be released Revolution.

Currently, Nintendo owns the handheld market, and is actually the smaller player in the console market. But with their latest moves, I smell some tide turning. While the PSP is mighty and powerful, its not accessable. Hell I sit and wonder at times how I can port mine around, given that i had to put it inside a mammoth case to protect it. Pocket? barely. Backpack? More likely. Sure its hot and sexy.. but portable is actally a stretch. Hell, I’m too afraid I’ll drop it!

But look at the trends in electronics now:

  • MP3 players– First the Diamond Rio and the Creative Nomad, then the one that overcomes it all the Ipod, quickly followed by the Ipod Mini. then the Shuffle. and the Nano.
  • Look at Phones. Smaller and smaller (nokia standard from 3 years ago to the amazing camera / internet / wooo woo curvy motorolla’s of today)
  • Look at PDAs, Palms 3-7 then poof small phone integrated treo.

Each time, even though the technology has been there, it takes a literal smoothing of the edges to make it catch on. Take the tech, and make it soft, easy to use, and make it integral to my life.

Yes. Electronics are at a boundry.. that boundry where the everyday person can wear them or carry them and where their lives become inextricabliy linked with them.

And her is the Micro bursting on the scene. And that Revolution-ary remote.

Yes. Nintendo is smelling the chic and it smells like Apple, and like the perfumes of the young technorati. The 30 somethings with real cash (jobs), and the teens of today who are ever more tech savvy.

Watch and learn people. I predict Nintendo making great strides over the next 3-5 years. And while Sony may be too big to feel much pain, I think Microsoft will feel the bite. Their system may have the horsepower, but I’ve seen cheaper HORSES!

Ok.. I think I’m off MY horse now. But to semi-quote the Matrix — If this is what I think it is… its a very exciting time.

From the review (he was just talking about the distinctive packaging):

“Therein lies the aim of the packaging and the faceplates. The Micro just looks so damn approachable. You can accessorize it, make it look how you want, get a nice screen, and not a whole lot of buttons. In fact, you can’t look at it without wanting to touch it, not to mention play with it. The DS looks like a compact, and the PSP looks incredibly intimidating for someone who may not be that comfortable with technology. The Micro looks high-tech, but it doesn’t seem to put people off. I had people who never tried videogames playing Mario Kart in no time.”

post Peter Jackson to Executive Produce Halo Movie

Yep, it’s true.

Things keep on going well for this film project. Backed with the power of the most popular of all console series, Bungie’s unwillingness to compromise artistic control has landed them with continued good fortune.

Needless to say I and the rest of Bungie are positively incontinent (Marty especially). But what really knocks us on our asses is we’re also getting the combined talent of the mighty men and women of WETA in the bargain. From fabricating Covenant weapons to building life-sized Forerunner structures to accomplishing shot after shot of complex live-action/CG integration – simply put, there’s no group of people we’d rather have realize the Halo universe on screen.

WETA is on board, too. Sweet.

post BF2 Patch v1.03 is Out

Filed under: PC — Della Bitta @ 1:56 pm

The BF2 Patch is out. Grab it from:

Enjoy.

Edit: Incase you have any problems with “Invalid CD-Key” errors after the patch installation, then this ( or a game reinstall) should clear things up:

  1. Start the patch installation again
  2. Select your language
  3. Stop right there! Don’t go past the Welcome screen.
  4. Keep the patch-window open. Go to your start menu, select “run” and type in %temp%
  5. 6. Enter the folder {digits-and-letters}. You may have a few of these. Select the folder with today’s date. Within that folder is another {digits-and-letters}. Open that one as well.
  6. Double click BF2CDKeyCheck.exe. Nothing obivous will happen, but don’t worry.. it’s good
  7. Finish the patch installation and you should be good to go.

post 1UP Tours WoW’s Hidden Content

October 4th, 2005

Filed under: PC, MMO — Della Bitta @ 10:39 am

1UP.com has the story.

It looks like a few bored WoW players discovered a way to get into the game’s various hidden zones. In the past these locked-off pockets of the game have served as test beds for the World of Warcraft content developers. Although some areas have only a few building/terrain models sprinkled here and there, other zones seem to be fully flushed out and are nearing completion.

Take the above screen shot for instance. Seems like a new Human town, right? Look closer (click it) and you can easily see this is the ruined Hillsbrad citadel east of T Mills — probably from the past? Other zones hint at a version of Tanaris overrun by jungle. Could the upcoming expansion be a time warped version of the game’s current content?

post DS: Trauma Center

October 4th, 2005

Gamespy has the 4.5/5 star review.

A few of us own PSPs so I think a lot of our handheld content leans toward that platform; we’ve pretty much ignored the Nintendo DS titles. But like a lot of DS games, TC is a bit of the ingenious. Take the old school board game “Operation” and mix it with a bit of the old interactive stylus action. Throw in a tiny bit of tasteful gore, some slicing, stressful thumping music, and a nurse who grills you out when you accidently butcher your patient.

Ingenious. Wish I owned a DS.

post “Mine” - A BF2 Machinima Movie

October 3rd, 2005

Filed under: Loosely Game Related — Della Bitta @ 4:39 pm

Stream the movie (Windows Media), or grab the torrent from Filerush.com.

An excellent example of Gaming Machinima. There’s a little BF2 commentary and the rest is just plain silliness. Great direction, too, IMHO.

There hasn’t been much gaming news lately, so sit back and enjoy!
